King Abdulaziz International Airport (مطار الملك عبدالعزيز الدولي‎) is the busiest airport of Saudi Arabia and an important airport for Muslim’s visting the holy place Mecca. It even has a terminal which was specially built for Muslim pilgrims going to Mecca on the Hajj. The Hajj Terminal can handle around 80,000 passengers at the same time and is one of the largest terminals in the world. Jeddah Airport has also a royal terminal for the exclusive use of the King of Saudi Arabia and members of the Royal family.

New King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) 

Since 2019 the new King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah opens it gates. It consists of 4 passenger terminals and also offers a terminal for pilgrims – the so-called Haj and Umrah Terminal Complex. With an are of 456,000 square meters this terminal is the fourth largest passenger terminal in the world. It is equipped with high-tech facilities for pilgrims and for completing screening procedures. The airport has hotels and a mosque to aaccommodate 3,000 worshippers as well as many cafes, restaurants and duty free shops. The New King Abdulaziz Airport also has a huge indoor garden to provide travelers a stress-free and peaceful environment.

Jeddah Airport (JED): Tips for pilgrims going to Mecca

King Abdulaziz International Airport is the main airport serving Jeddah and is especially during Hajj very busy. The airport has a terminal for pilgrims who travel to the holy city of Mecca. Although each year around 3.7 million pilgrims participate in the Hajj, the terminal can handle this large amount of people. Known as the fourth largest terminal in the world it can handle 80,000 passengers at the same time. So you don’t have to worry about it. But before you travel for the Hajj you must have:

  • a valid permit to perform Hajj
  • an identification card and wristband from your Hajj travel agent and
  • a vaccicante certificate

Also keep in mind that your Hajj and Umrah visas are only valid for travel dates in the areas of Jeddah, Makkah and Medina and for travel between this areas.
Hajj visa holders should enter and depart from Jeddah Airport (JED) and Prince Mohammed Bin Abdulaziz Airport in Madinah only. All passengers with a Hajj visa enter and depart from Hajj Terminal – this includes also pilgrims on scheduled flights for Istanbul, Mumbai, Dehli, Jakarta, Dhaka and Karachi.
